The Free State Cricket Union has confirmed the appointment of former Proteas fast bowler Allan Donald as a consulting coach for October 2019.
Donald will work with the Free State provincial team and Knights franchise.
‘We are delighted to announce that we have embarked on a project to get a consulting coach this season. Allan’s name came up as the best candidate as he was recently inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame; and as a player, a coach or an administrator you cannot receive a higher honour than that,’ said Knights chief executive officer Johan van Heerden.
‘Allan is a born and bred Bloemfonteiner and it was an obvious choice to get him to come and look after our fast bowlers.’
Van Heerden, meanwhile, relished the involvement of three Knights in the 2019 Mzansi Super League.
In last week’s player draft Knights captain Pite van Biljon moved from the Jozi Stars to the Tshwane Spartans and young all-rounder Marco Jansen was recruited by the Durban Heat. Leg-spinner Shaun von Berg, meanwhile, left the Spartans for the Durban Heat.
‘It is always nice to have our players involved in the Mzansi Super League and specifically our captain Pite. It is good to have him playing on a higher level and in a bigger competition in preparation for the season ahead,’ he added.
