In celebration of women’s month, the Dolphins will host a Women in Sport and Business Brunch on 30 August at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium.
Speaking about the event, KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union’s marketing manager Nana Ngubane said that this idea came after having a thorough discussion with her team to figure out how the union, franchise and its players can help to advance women, especially in sport and business.
‘For many years, women in sports and business have been somewhat sidelined; however, in recent years, various sports federations have been gradually trying to right the wrongs of the past. In business as well, the world is now turning to female leaders for insight and counsel,’ she commented.
‘Not to say that the injustices are now non-existent; however, there is a visible shift that we have witnessed and would like to drive it forward in our capacity.’
The Dolphins felt that it was time to take a prominent position in driving these conversations of inequality between male and female sports and business people head on.
‘The Hollywoodbets Dolphins have decided to take a stand through action,’ Ngubane added. ‘This event will be a first of its kind and we are hoping to level the ground and create a platform where everyone can speak without fear or favour.’
The lineup for the day will be Margaret Hirsch, Jane Linley-Thomas and Nandi Dlepu, along with our very own Dinesha Devanarain.
These women will be speaking about how they have been able to break barriers in their respective fields. They have done exceptionally well for themselves and, through their stories, the event hopes to inspire other women to thrive in the sport and business environment.
