The Dolphins ended day three of their 4-Day Franchise Series match against the Titans with a strong lead going into the final day.
Jason Oakes (18) and Grant Roelofsen (37) worked their way to 49 without loss before the former departed after being caught behind off Junior Dala. Roelofsen was then trapped leg before wicket by Shaun von Berg with the score on 73, which brought Vaughn van Jaarsveld (67) and Cody Chetty (32) together for a 76-run partnership for the third wicket.
Senuran Muthusamy (20), Sibonelo Makhanya (15) and Robbie Frylinck (21) helped to push the score along, but the hero of the lower order was number seven batsman Calvin Savage, who brought up his 10th first-class century off 80 balls. Savage hit three fours and three sixes in his knock, ending on 51 not out at the close, after adding an unbroken 37 for the eighth wicket with his captain, Keshav Maharaj, who contributed five not out.
The Dolphins take a 255 run lead into the final day with three wickets remaining, but they will need to get the Titans into bat within the first hour if they hope to have enough time to bowl them out for what would be a priceless victory.
Chris Morris (1-37, econ 2.84) and Eldred Hawken(1-33, econ 2.20) were both tidy with the ball, but Von Berg was the hero of the day, taking the wickets of three top-six batsmen for just 64 runs (econ 3.04), as well as a catch off the bowling of Alfred Mothoa to remove Frylinck after his stand of 42 for the seventh wicket alongside Savage.
