• Dolphins focus on playing, not politics

KZN Dolphins captain Prenelan Subrayen says the players leave the “political part” of cricket to “the office staff”.

The Dolphins beat the Northerns Titans by 65 runs in the One-Day Cup qualifier playoff at Kingsmead on Wednesday and will face Boland in Sunday’s final in Paarl.

The Titans had been set to host the Warriors in the playoff match between the teams that finished second and third on the log.

But the Warriors were docked five log points by CSA for only selecting two black African players among their required six players of colour (instead of three) for their match against the Dolphins in Durban on 16 February, with the Dolphins awarded four log points.

That saw the Dolphins move up to second on the log and the Titans drop down to third – and the qualifier playoff taking place at Kingsmead instead of Centurion.

“We had a bit of a bumpy T20 campaign,” Subrayen told News24. “For us as players, ours was to focus on the playing part where we focused on rectifying all of our mistakes.

“The political part of things is something we’ll leave to the office staff.”

Boland’s spinners have dominated on Boland Park’s slow surface, but Kingsmead has also been spin-friendly this season just with quicker turn.

“In terms of taking spin, they’re similar, but where they’re different is in terms of the pace,” said spinner Subrayen. “However, the process of preparation still remains the same regardless of the nature of the pitch. We’ll be looking forward to play on the surface.”

The Dolphins will also have the services of Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj, who took 3-37 in the qualifier playoff.

Sunday’s final will start at 1pm.
