A confident Dewald Brevis will be swinging for the fences in the SA20 league.
The 19-year-old shot to prominence at the IPL where his aggressive batting style and similarity to AB de Villiers earned him the nickname “Baby AB”.
Brevis has not played for the senior Proteas team at any level yet but he did play for the youth side at the U19 World Cup in 2022 where he dominated the bowling and broke Shikar Dhawan’s record for most runs at the tournament.
Brevis recently returned to South Africa to take part in the T20 Challenge with the Titans and produced a record-breaking innings of 162 of just 57 balls which included 13 sixes and 13 fours.

He will play for MI Cape Town alongside legends of the game like Kagiso Rabada, Jofra Archer and Rashied Khan.
“It’s a dream come true,” Brevis said. “It has always been my dream to represent Mumbai Indians, and now MI Cape Town, and to be able to play on the big stage because the crowds are massive, and I really enjoy it.
“I think this tournament is going to be amazing. All these players coming to South Africa, the cricket is going to be very strong. It is going to be very competitive. People must be ready, because there is going to be lots of fireworks, lots of boundaries, lots of wickets.”
Despite cricket’s entire stratosphere being virtually his oyster, Brevis remains humble and values the prospect of being able to tap into the intellectual capacity of senior internationals in the team.
“It’s absolutely amazing!” Brevis said. “Who better to pick their brains, and get advice from? I can’t wait to share a dressing room and a field with them.”
