South African batsman Cameron Delport struck a brisk half-century, as the Paktia Panthers beat the Balkh Legends in Wednesday’s key Afghanistan Premier League clash in Sharjah.
Delport hit an entertaining 70 not out, which featured one four and half a dozen towering sixes.
His superb 48-delivery stay spearheaded the Panthers to a final total of 204-4. The Legends’ response proved entirely insufficient, ending on 167 all out.
The Legends are coached by former Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs, and sport the services of Port Elizabeth-born Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate and Durban-born New Zealand big-hitter Colin Munro.
South Africans Wayne Parnell and Colin Ingram are also competing in the Afghanistan Premier League. The duo play for Kabul Zwanan. Parnell, Ingram and Delport are unavailable for international selection, after signing Kolpak contracts in the United Kingdom.
The hard-hitting Delport boasts plenty of T20 experience across the globe, having spent stints with the Boost Defenders in the inaugural Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy, Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League, Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League and Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash League.
