The Sunrisers Hyderabad secured their third win out of four matches to claim first place on the IPL 2019 log, reports ANITHA MADIKIZELA.
Having won the toss and electing to field first, the Sunrisers managed to restrict the Capitals to just 129-8 on a slow and tricky surface at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. The visitors made a spectacle of the chase by losing wickets along the way, but the Sunrisers eventually secured a five-wicket victory with nine balls to spare.

Shreyas Iyer was the pick of the Delhi batsmen with his captain’s knock of 43 (41 balls, 3×4, 1×6) in the first innings. There weren’t too many meaningful contributions from the home team’s batsmen, highlighted by the fact that the second-best contribution came from Axar Patel with his unbeaten 23 off 13 deliveries (1×4, 2×6) batting at No 8.
The Sunrisers bowling attack had a fantastic outing with the ball as they shared the wickets equally among themselves. Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi picked up the wickets of Delhi danger men Shikhar Dhawan (12) and Rishabh Pant (5), while his countryman Rashid Khan accounted for the Delhi captain by rattling his stumps seven runs short of his half-century.

The visitors began their chase with a bang, thanks to a scorching 48 off just 28 balls from opener Jonny Bairstow. His dismissal at the hands of the excellent Rahul Tewatia (1-10) sparked a minor collapse as the Sunrisers struggled to finish things off.
It was Nabi who stepped up again to take the Hyderabad outfit over the line by smashing a quickfire 19 that included two fours and a massive six that sealed the victory.
