The Chennai Super Kings scored a six-wicket win over the Delhi Capitals with two balls in hand in Delhi on Tuesday, writes SIMON LEWIS.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Delhi Capitals failed to capitalise on a slow, stodgy pitch that was not conducive to positive stroke play.
Teen sensation Prithvi Shaw scored 24 from 16 balls in an opening stand of 36 with Shikhar Dhawan (51 from 47), after which Rishabh Pant (25 off 13 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (18 off 20 balls) helped the Capitals to 147-6 off 20 overs, with Dwayne Bravo collecting 3-33 off his four overs.
Shane Watson exchanged words with Kagiso Rabada in a testing opening passage of play before the Aussie opener lashed out to score a fiery 44 off 26 balls with four fours and three sixes (S/R 169.23).
Player of the Match Watson created the impetus for Suresh Raina (30 off 16 balls), Kedar Jadhav (27 off 34 balls) and MS Dhoni (32 not out off 35 balls) to take the Kings through to a final over win with six wickets in hand. Axar Patel (4-0-16-0, econ 4.00) was the most economical with the ball, while Amit Mishra picked up two wickets for 35 runs as the Kings picked up their second win in two matches.
