AB de Villiers made a stunning return to first-class cricket with an unbeaten 134 for Northerns in Benoni on Sunday.
De Villiers, who last week announced that he’s made himself unavailable for the upcoming Test series against England and possible the following ones against India and Bangladesh, played his first competitive game for over seven months, and he absolutely dominated.
The Proteas star hasn’t played a competitive game for the Titans in over 10 years let alone Northerns, and it was a welcome inclusion for the three-day side who won by eight wickets in the Provincial One Day Challenge against Easterns.
Jonathan Vandiar went for a golden duck, which brought De Villiers to the crease in just the second ball of the innings. De Villiers smashed three sixes and no less than 19 fours on his way to 134, needing just 108 balls to do so as they chased down the required 200 for victory in just over 30 overs.
De Villiers’ priorities now rest with the Titans as he aims to get back to full fitness.
