Quinton de Kock has become the joint fastest batsman to 1 000 ODI runs after passing the mark during the second ODI in Bulawayo on Tuesday.
De Kock, who started the game with 963 runs in ODIs, needed just 37 to pass the mark and join Sir Vivian Richards, Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott as the quickest men to 1 000 ODI runs.
All three before him had done so in 21 innings, though Pietersen had done it the quickest in terms of time, completing his first 21 games in just one year and 123 days. Trott took one year, 187 days to do it, while Richards, playing in the 1970s when ODIs weren’t a regular feature on tours, took four years and 229 days.
De Kock made 38 in his innings, meaning he now stands on 1 001 ODI runs from 21 games. He did so in one year, 212 days, but is the youngest out of the four who have achieved the feat the quickest. De Kock fell just after reaching the milestone, getting caught by Elton Chigumbura off the bowling of John Nyumbu.
