Cape Town Blitz captain Quinton de Kock is understandably eager to beat the Jozi Stars for a second time in as many weeks, come Thursday’s Mzansi Super League fixture at Newlands.
The Blitz and Stars, who were last year’s finalists, met in the opening match of the 2019 MSL last week. The visitors won on the back of a superb 99 not out from opening batsman Janneman Malan, but then lost heavily to the Paarl Rocks on the weekend.
‘I’m not sure what went wrong in the last one. I think it was just a bad day at the office. I think as we go along we will get better as a batting unit, where we had some soft dismissals in the last game,’ said De Kock.

‘When we find the consistency, then I’m sure we’ll be up and going with the batting lineup that we have. We also need to get better at acclimatising to conditions. We didn’t do that well in Paarl.’
Stars batsman Reeza Hendricks, meanwhile, is determined to recover from successive defeats. The defending champions’ loss to the Blitz on Friday was coupled with another to the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.
‘I think we’re going to have to go back and see where we went wrong, but we certainly have to be executing a bit better in the next game. Every individual needs to look at their game and see where they can improve and take it forward really,’ said Hendricks.
‘Just ask themselves the tough questions of where they can improve exactly and hopefully do that in the next game. It’s not ideal, but it’s still early in the competition. The belief, I’m sure, is still there.’
