South African opener Quinton de Kock failed with the bat, but brilliance from Rohit Sharma guided the Mumbai Indians to a 49-run win over the Kolkata Knight Riders in Wednesday’s IPL action, writes JUANDRE JOUBERT.
De Kock scored 33 in Mumbai’s opener against Chennai but could only add one run to his total tournament runs as he miscued his first ball and had to depart.
His opening partner, Rohit Sharma, batted superbly, hitting three fours and six sixes on his way to a 54-ball 80. He was assisted by Surya Yadav as Mumbai set Kolkata a massive target of 196.
Kolkata’s chase never really got any rhythm as they lost wickets at regular intervals, with their biggest partnership Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana only scoring 46 runs.
Mumbai needed to bounce back after their defeat by CSK, and they put in the perfect performance as the bowlers backed up Rohit’s perfect display with the bat with great bowling.
