The Knights started their 2016-17 cricket season victorious, when they were hosted by the Titans in the annual Ehlanzeni Cup at Uplands College on the weekend.
Theunis de Bruyn, captaining for the Knights for the first time, batted through the innings to guide the visitors to a four-wicket victory. De Bruyn scored 137 off 112 balls with 12 fours and four sixes. What makes this ton noticeable is that it comes against his former side who he played 27 first-class matches for scoring 2 111 runs.
Although their captain took the Knights over the line, it was their bowlers who set the tone. Dillon du Preez (2-29), Duanne Olivier (1-50) and spinner Michael Erlank (2-60) all taking wickets for their side.
At the end this enabled the Knights to close the game quite comfortably with a final score of 314-5 in 45 overs.
The four significant additions to the squad were Robin Peterson, Marchant de Lange, David Miller and Theunis de Bruyn which helped source thee power for a victory.
‘We want to thank the Titans and Upland College for hosting us this year and are looking forward to the next Ehlanzeni Challenge,’ said Coach Nicky Boje.
‘What was very pleasing was to see our home grown players also performing admirably well. We have a team that we can be very proud of and hopefully will bring us some silverware this season,’ added CEO Johan van Heerden.
The Knights will play their first Sunfoil Series match of the season from 6-9 October 2016 at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
