The Titans have announced their leadership core for next season, with Henry Davids and Albie Morkel leading the four-day and one-day teams respectively.
Morkel (34) will be in charge of the defending Momentum One Day Cup champions. He will also preside over the team in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge.
The 22-year old Theunis de Bruyn has been appointed vice-captain across all three formats.
The appointment of De Bruyn also underlines the vision of the Titans management, who have placed a particular focus on developing the leadership resources in the franchise.
‘Henry is one of the most respected senior players and leaders of the Titans and has a huge role to play in the future successes of the franchise,’ said Rob Walter, the Titans coach.
‘He is a classical lead-from-the-front player, a fearless and passionate campaigner with an attacking mind-set and encapsulates the Titans team-ethos like few others.’
Walter said Morkel’s intimate knowledge of varying playing conditions, his match-awareness and game intelligence will be an asset to the Titans in the 2015/2016.
‘We believe Albie will lead from the front. He has grown significantly as leader over the last couple of seasons and he has now become driven to leave a legacy for the young Titans players that will represent the Sky Blues in the future.
‘I have no doubt that together Henry and Albie will provide the leadership required to grow the Titans culture and continue the proud history of success that the Franchise has enjoyed,’ added Walter.
‘Theunis has displayed leadership characteristics from the outset and one of our responsibilities as management of the team is to provide the best platform for successful leadership in the future. We hope that by giving Theunis this responsibility, it will fast-track his growth as a leadership figure in the franchise.’
