Knights captain Garnett Tarr racked up the highest individual score in the history of the CSA Cubs Week tournament in Stellenbosch on Friday, writes THEO GARRUN.
Knights captain Garnett Tarr was 181 not out in his side’s win over the Cape Cobras on the second day of the CSA Cubs Week in Stellenbosch on Friday. It was the highest individual score in the history of the tournament and he only needed 135 balls to make it. He smashed 21 fours and seven sixes as he took the home side’s attack apart.
The Warriors and the Dolphins both have two wins out of two. The Warriors followed up their win over the Knights on day one with a six-wicket win over the Titans in their second outing on Friday, while the Dolphins beat the Titans on day one and the Lions on Friday.
The Eastern Cape side restricted the Titans to 184 off their 50 overs and then reached that score with four wickets down and five overs to spare. The Warriors’ Luke Beaufort (a centurion on day one) weighed in with 49, and Tristan Stubbs made 37 as they chased down the modest target.

The Dolphins posted 230-7 against the Lions, with Matthew Montgomery (76) and Thamsanqa Khumalo (53) making the major contributions. North West bowler Marco Jansen took five of those wickets for the Lions, finishing with the day’s best figures of 5-47. Only Cameron Shekleton – who ended 82 not out – put up any resistance in reply and the Lions were bundled out for 170 in the 46th over.
The only other century of the day was a 123-ball 106 by the Cobras’ Jonathan Bird against the Knights. He was helped by Ruan Terblanche, who got his second big score of the week – 68 following his 116 not out on day one – as the hosts posted a handy 279-5, but it was not enough to withstand Tarr’s onslaught.
All the games are played at Stellenbosch University and play continues until Tuesday.
