Three days after announcing the newly invented Solidarity Cup, Cricket South Africa has decided to postpone the event, stating more preparation is needed.
In a first for world cricket, three teams were set to compete in a new format called 3 Team Cricket – scheduled to take place next week Saturday at SuperSport Park in Centurion to mark cricket’s return in South Africa.
But, on Saturday afternoon the CSA communication team issued a short statement saying the event has been postponed as the associated parties aren’t ready as yet to successfully stage the match in such a short period of time.
‘The operational teams behind the Solidarity match and event partners in collaboration with Cricket South Africa, 3TCricket and SuperSport met to consider the readiness to host the event on 27th June. Following this meeting, it has become clear that more work is needed in preparation including approval.
‘A new date will be announced in due course,’ read the statement from CSA.
