Several franchise players have been earmarked as ‘potential stars of the future’ and included in the squad for Cricket South Africa’s spin-bowling camp in Bengaluru this month.
Proteas cricketers Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram and Zubayr Hamza will accompany the Warriors’ Ed Moore, Cape Cobras’ Pieter Malan and other batsmen to India.
Among the spinners, the Cobras’ Dane Piedt will be with franchise teammate George Linde, the Lions’ Bjorn Fortuin and others.
‘We have identified Aiden, Zubayr and Temba as key Proteas batsmen to benefit from this project and we have also included some of our potential stars of the future such as Janneman Malan and Sinethemba Qeshile, who have already both played for the Proteas, as well as Matthew Breetzke,’ said CSA chief executive officer Thabang Moroe.
‘The batting group is completed by two of our most consistent run-scorers in franchise cricket in Pieter and Ed.
‘The bowling group is headed by the experience of Dane and includes highly promising talents, among them being Bjorn, Tsepo Ndwandwa and Senuran Muthusamy.
‘It is a fact that most international cricket is played on the subcontinent these days and we have to look ahead not only to the tours on the immediate horizon, but the next edition of the World Cup in India in 2023.’
The spin-bowling camp will run from 17-23 August and precede the Proteas three T20Is and as many Tests in India later this year.
