The annual Cricket South Africa awards will take place in Pretoria on Saturday. Several accolades will be handed out, including the Domestic Newcomer of the Season.

The candidates: David Bedingham, Janneman Malan, Sinethemba Qeshile, Lutho Sipamla.

Bedingham bedded in at the Cape Cobras after earning a contract on the back of a superb stretch of form for Boland. He finished among the 4-Day Franchise Series’ top run-scorers and was second highest for the Cobras.

Malan’s season effectively started with a superb showing for the Cape Town Blitz in the inaugural Mzansi Super League, continued with a T20I debut against Pakistan and all but concluded with more significant runs for South Africa Emerging.

Qeshile was outstanding during the 4-Day Franchise Series and averaged over 50 across 18 innings. The wicketkeeper-batsman was strong in the One-Day Cup, too, effectively ensuring a T20I debut against Sri Lanka in March.

Like Qeshile and Malan, Sipamla was blooded in international cricket via the shortest format. Playing alongside AB de Villiers at the Tshwane Spartans certainly helped the fast bowler’s rise.

‘I am very impressed with Lutho. I think he has all the credentials to become a serious fast bowler for South Africa in the future,’ De Villiers said at the time.
