A post on the Cricket Australia website read: ‘A calculation provided to cricket.com.au by an ICC spokesperson last week stated that if Australia went through the tri-series undefeated, the Aussies would edge ahead of Pakistan and be crowned world No 1.’
But, according to the website, the ICC clarified their initial calculations were incorrect, and Pakistan retained their spot at the top of the ICC T20 rankings by a fraction.
Australia, who started the tri-series against New Zealand and England (who are ranked seventh), are currently second on the ICC rankings on 125.65 points, 0.19 behind Pakistan on 125.84.
