Andrea Agathangelou scored a fine century to underpin the Titans’ day-one offering of 280-6 against the Cobras in their Sunfoil match at Paarl.
It was his first hundred in his fourth Sunfoil match this season, taking his run count to 324, at an average of 64.80. The Titans certainly needed an innings of such determination, as they ended the day in a slightly precarious position. Quick wickets on day two will give the Cobras heart as they seek their second win of the season. They are on a roll after the Titans were threatening to take control at 169-2.
After losing two early wickets, Heinrich Klaasen (35) provided solid support for Agathangelou as they put on 111 for the third wicket.
Klaasen fell to the spin of Dane Piedt, and on the departure of the centurion – caught behind off Tshepo Moreki with the score on 185-4 – Farhaan Behardien took up the running. He finally found a resolute partner in Shaun von Berg (42 off 68) as they added 70 for the sixth wicket.
Behardien was energetically holding the fort on 56 off 94 at the close of play, and he will need to press on.
Dane Paterson and Moreki ended with two apiece as the pick of the Cobras attack.
In Johannesburg, the Highveld Lions laboured to 207-7 in 80 overs against the Dolphins, who desperately need a win to stay in the race for the title. Omphile Ramela provided the backbone of the innings, scoring 60 off 171 balls, with fleeting support from Reeza Hendricks (27).
There was a flurry of activity in the tail where Wiaan Mulder scored 38 off 95 and Mangaliso Mosehle ran up an unbeaten 37 against an array of eight bowlers until bad light stopped play.
