Vaughn van Jaarsveld top scored for the Dolphins with 62 as they drew with the Cobras in the Kasi challenge on Friday.
The Friday afternoon crowd at the Chatsworth Stadium was treated to a thrilling climax to the Kasi Coastal Challenge that ended in a tie.
Needing two runs to win off the last ball, new batsman Andile Phehlukwayo could only wring a solitary leg bye off the last delivery of the match, leaving the scores level at 174, and the match tied.
The home side looked to have the run chase under control on a batter-friendly track, reaching 94 for the loss of two wickets by the halfway mark in their innings, chasing down the visitors total of 174-6.
Van Jaarsveld anchored much of the Dolphins’ run chase, scoring 62 off just 42 balls, and shared the Man Of The Match award with the top scorer for the Cape side Janneman Malan, who posted 63 off 48 deliveries.
Mthokozisi Shezi was the pick of the Dolphins bowlers, taking two wickets for 38 in his four overs, with most of the bowlers adding their names to the list of wickets takers.
The run chase started brightly with Cody Chetty scoring freely en route to his 27-ball 40, while the perennial rock of the Dolphins batting line-up Morne van Wyk contributed 41 off just 20 deliveries.
The Cobras bowlers did well to stifle the Dolphins middle order, taking the key wicket of Sibz Makhanya in the final over to set up the share of the spoils.
The match was a positive pre-season outing for both teams, enjoyed by the Chatsworth crowd on a balmy Friday afternoon.
