• Brilliant Qeshile ton sinks Lions

The dynamic young Sinethemba Qeshile scored his maiden List A century as the Warriors scored a brilliant seven-run win over a high-flying Lions side in East London.

Qeshile came to the wicket with the Warriors floundering on 63-4, and the talented young man proceeded to rack up a brilliant undefeated 121 off 105 balls. His innings was accentuated by 13 fours and three sixes (S/r 115.23).

Colin Ackermann shared a 160-run stand for the fifth wicket with Qeshile as the pair repaired the Warriors innings. The 35-year-old Aaron Phangiso picked up three wickets for 48 runs, while Malusi Siboto (2-68) and Nandre Burger (2-80) picked up wickets, but were the two most expensive Lions bowlers.

Dominic Hendricks scored his second List A century (116 not out off 103 balls, 7×4, 2×6), and Nicky van den Bergh added his highest List A score (72 off 62 balls, 8×4, 2×6) as the pair put on 125 runs for the fourth wicket to keep their side in sight of victory.

Three quick wickets from Warriors skipper Jon Jon Smuts cut the heart out of the Lions’ run chase, returning figures of 9-0-63-3, while Andrew Birch (3-50), Lutho Sipamla (2-62) and Sisanda Magala (1-47) all contributed with the ball. Sinethemba Qeshile picked up the Player of the Match award as his side won by seven runs on the D/L Method in a superb night for the Warriors.
