South African batting star Dewald Brevis is set to gain valuable experience in two top T20 franchise tournaments.
The 19-year-old will play for the Kandy Falcons in the Lankan Premier League, which starts on 31 July, and the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League that gets under way on 31 August.
Earlier this year, Brevis broke the record for the most runs scored in a single U19 World Cup, with 506 in six innings at an average of 84.33, after which he was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction for R6-million.
Brevis’ first IPL season will be remembered for a brilliant knock of 49 off 25 balls against the Punjab Kings that had ‘Baby AB’ trending on Twitter. In the ninth over of Mumbai’s innings, the 18-year-old smashed Punjab leg-spinner Rahul Chahar for a four and then four consecutive sixes.
In seven innings, the No 3 batsman scored 161 runs at an average of 23.00 and a strike rate of 142.47.
