Dewald Brevis scored a debut T20 half-century as the Northern Titans beat the KZN Dolphins by 34 runs in the opening match of the T20 Challenge in Potchefstroom on Monday.
The 19-year-old hit four sixes and two fours in his 57 off 44 balls as the Titans posted 168-6.
Brevis got stuck into the Dolphins’ spinners, with Jon-Jon Smuts conceding 27 runs in his two overs.
Donavon Ferreira (24 off 13) and Dayyaan Galiem (26* off 13) also made useful contributions for the Titans.
Dolphins opener Grant Roelofsen made 68 off 42 balls, but his team fell well short of the target as 38-year-old spinner Aaron Phangiso picked up 3-16 in 3.4 overs for the Titans.
When trapping Jason Smith lbw, Phangiso became the leading wicket-taker in domestic T20 cricket, surpassing Robbie Frylinck’s 95 scalps.
