Pakistan international Mohammad Nawaz is relishing the opportunity to play at his second ‘home’ when he represents the Cape Town Blitz in the inaugural Mzansi Super League.
Nawaz, who is married to a Capetonian, is no stranger to this part of the world and will not only be playing in front of his family for the first time, but it will also be his first time playing at Newlands.
‘I am very happy to be in Cape Town and it is a good opportunity for me to be part of the Cape Town Blitz,’ said Nawaz.
‘It is my second home, so it’s not a different environment for me. I have been to Cape Town before but not for cricket. Hopefully, I can perform well and make this my new home. I am very excited to play my first game at Newlands and my Cape Town family will be here to watch me play for the first time,’ he added.
The all-rounder, who made his T20I debut in 2016 and has subsequently represented Pakistan on 16 occasions, linked up with the Cape Town Blitz on Wednesday and got stuck in straight away to adapt to his new surroundings.
‘I had a good session in the nets where I batted and bowled a little longer than usual as I am trying to adapt to the conditions. The pitches here have more bounce, so as a bowler you have to change your line and length, and as a batsman, you have to pick the correct shots,’ said Nawaz.
The Cape Town Blitz host the Tshwane Spartans at Newlands for the opening match of the Mzansi Super League on Friday. Tickets for the match are available at Ticketpro (www.ticketpros.co.za) or at the Newlands Ticket Office.
