Bavuma’s presence will boost Northamptonshire’s bid to gain promotion to the first division. They finished in ninth position in 2018’s second division. He will be available to Northants between May and July.
‘We are keen to return to the Championship’s top division and hopefully, his runs will help us achieve that,’ said Northamptonshire chief executive officer Ray Payne.

His Test experience will bring an added dimension to the team and we’re all looking forward to welcoming a cricketer who is admired and respected around the cricketing world. We are looking forward to having him and are eager to have a good season with him.’
The 28-year-old right-hander has played 31 Tests and two ODIs – and is currently representing the Durban Heat in the inaugural Mzansi Super League.
Former Proteas batsman Richard Levi and fast bowler Rory Kleinveldt played for Northants earlier this year. Kleinveldt is also playing in the MSL, for the Tshwane Spartans.
Former Northamptonshire batsman Ben Duckett, meanwhile, is part of the Nelsoon Mandela Bay Giants’ campaign. Several other England stars are part of the MSL, including batsman Dawid Malan and Jason Roy.
