Proteas Test and ODI captain Temba Bavuma was ruled out of the 4-Day Series final at the Wanderers due to another elbow injury.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Bavuma was supposed to join up with the Central Gauteng Lions on Tuesday from Cape Town, but did not arrive in Johannesburg.
The Lions found out late on Wednesday that Bavuma would not play in the five-day domestic decider against the Northerns Titans because of the niggle.
ESPNcricinfo has learned that Bavuma’s left elbow is injured – the same one he has injured before.
The Proteas’ next assignment is the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s in June.
The first day of the 4-Day Series final on Thursday was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to a wet Wanderers outfield despite blue sky and blazing sunshine.
