Temba Bavuma removed talisman David Warner with an exceptional run out as SA dominated proceedings on day four.
After the Proteas set a colossal target of 539 and declaring shortly after lunch, Australia needed to start off their innings in the same mould as they did on day one if they wanted to secure the biggest run-chase in history.
Warner was steady on 35 as Australia were starting to sink their heels in, but an amazing piece of fielding from Bavuma saw him scampering across the ground with his short-leg pads on and producing a direct hit to remove Australia’s danger-man in the 13th over, off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada.
In the absence of Dale Steyn, Rabada (3-49) proved his magnitude as a force to be reckoned with, putting in a top-class display of fast bowling, but it was Bavuma’s run-out that was the moment which sparked an awesome performance by South Africa as Australia struggled to get going.
Australia ended day four on 169-4 as SA look to wrap things up on the final day at the Waca.
