Ex-Proteas Women captain, Mignon du Preez, believes that they had the capacity to beat New Zealand if their match had not rained out on Wednesday.
The Proteas, coming off a narrow win against Pakistan, were due to face the White Ferns in Derby on Wednesday, but the game was washed out without an over being bowled, as both sides shared a point apiece.

Despite New Zealand Women’s No 3 ranking, Du Preez was still confident that her No 6-ranked Proteas side had what it takes to beat the White Ferns.
‘When you play, at least you have a chance of getting two points and we definitely backed ourselves to get the win,’ she said.
‘We’ve beaten them before, at home, so we’ve showed that we can compete against these teams.
‘We wouldn’t like to settle for just one point, we would have liked to compete for two, but it’s still better than nothing.
‘The weather is something you can’t control, so you have to make the best of it. We’ve got two or three days before our next game against the West Indies on Sunday, so we can go and work on some specifics.’
The Proteas will face the West Indies in their next encounter on Sunday, as they look to beat the side that they cruised past in a warm-up clash on 22 June.
