Ottniel Baartman took a career-best 4-18 as the KZN Dolphins beat the Northerns Titans by four wickets in the first T20 Knock Out semi-final in Kimberley on Thursday.
The Dolphins will face either the Free State Knights or the North West Dragons in Friday’s final (1pm).
Baartman dismissed Jiveshan Pillay (1) and Dayyaan Galiem (0) in the fifth over as the Titans slumped to 19-3.
Wickets continued to fall and it was only opener Gihahn Cloete’s 62 off 49 balls and good lower-order efforts from Donavon Ferreira (26 off 27) and Corbin Bosch (21 off 11) that ensured the Titans came close to batting out their 20 overs and post a defendable total.
Cloete was eventually bowled in the 19th over by Baartman, who then had Titans captain Aaron Phangiso caught off the first ball he faced. With that, Baartman surpassed SWD’s Hershell America as the tournament’s top wicket-taker (11).
The Dolphins chased down their total with three balls to spare thanks to an excellent knock of 58 off 45 balls by Khaya Zondo, who came in at No 4.
Openers Keegan Petersen (17 off 15) and Sarel Erwee (33 off 31) gave the KZN side a solid start, but a flurry of wickets had them stumbling to 97-5.
However, Zondo would steady the ship and secure the Dolphins’ spot in the decider.
