Back to back centuries by star batsman Steve Smith saw Australia take an unassailable 2-0 series lead after beating India by 51 runs in the second ODI on Sunday.
The Australian batsmen once again piled on the runs against Virat Kohli’s charges at the SCG with Smith smacking a brilliant 104 off 64 deliveries.
David Warner (83), Aaron Finch (60), Marnus Labuschagne (70) and Glen Maxwell (63) all made valuable contributions as Australia posted a massive 389-4 in their 50 overs.
In reply India lost openers Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal early on in their innings before Kohli consolidated a bit with a knock of 89.
But, Josh Hazlewood continued his good form with the ball and sent the Indian skipper packing, while Pat Cummins also got in on the act with figures of 3-67 in his ten overs.
In the end the visitors once again couldn’t come close to the Aussies’ total and finished their innings on 338-9 with KL Rahul the only other player to reach a half-century.
The victory means Australia will be eying a series whitewash when the two sides meet in the third and final ODI on Wednesday.
