The England trio of Jofra Archer, Joe Root and Chris Woakes will be unavailable for the upcoming ODI series against India, starting on Tuesday.
England will be hoping to finish their tour of the subcontinent on a high after losing the Test and T20I series to Virat Kohli’s charges.
But, they will have to do so without the services of Archer, who has been ruled out with an elbow injury, as well as Test captain Root and fast bowler Woakes, who have both been granted a rest for the three-match series.
Spinner Matt Parkinson officially joins the England squad in place of Archer, having acted as cover for the recent T20I series.
‘Jofra’s elbow issue has deteriorated over the course of the Twenty20 International series and made it increasingly challenging for him to maintain performance levels,’ the ECB said in a statement on Monday.
With England continuing their rotation policy, Dawid Malan, Jake Ball and Chris Jordan will be the reserves for the series.
‘It’s obviously disappointing for Jofra and for us. He will have every resource we can give him so we can get to the bottom of what is going on,’ added England coach Chris Silverwood.
‘The important thing here is we get it cleared up, see the specialist and make sure we put everything in place for Jofra to have a long, successful international career for England in all formats.’
Archer is also expected to miss the start of the IPL in April.
