Former Australian captain Steven Smith has been recruited by the Comilla Victorians for the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League.
Smith is currently serving a ban from international cricket after his involvement in the ball-tampering saga that rocked Australia’s Test tour of South Africa earlier this year.
The ban, however, does not prevent him from competing in domestic Twenty20 tournaments around the world.
He recently represented the Vancouver Knights in the Global T20 Canada and Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League.
South African batsman AB de Villiers, too, will playing in the BPL. He has signed for the Rangpur Riders.
De Villiers retired from international cricket earlier this year.
‘It’s not about earning more somewhere else, it’s about running out of gas and feeling that it is the right time to move on. Everything comes to an end. To the cricket fans around South Africa and the world, thank you for your kindness and generosity, and today, for your understanding,’ he said at the time.
‘I have no plans to play overseas, in fact, I hope I can continue to be available for the Titans in domestic cricket.’
He will be joined by countryman Christiaan Jonker and Robbie Frylinck in the BPL. Jonker and Frylinck will play for the Rajshahi Kings and Chittagong Vikings respectively. De Villiers, Jonker and Frylinck are currently playing in the inaugural Mzansi Super League in South Africa.
