England fast bowler James Anderson has sustained a groin injury and may miss the first Test against the Proteas.
The England all-time leading wicket-taker picked up the injury whilst playing for Lancashire in their Roses match against Yorkshire.
England’s medical staff will examine the extent of the injury this week, though Anderson is expected to be out for between four and six weeks.
The speedster will need to prove his fitness prior to the first Test against South Africa which begins on 6 July at Lord’s.
Anderson has taken 467 wickets in 122 matches for England at an average of 28.50.
