Proteas batsman Hashim Amla has expressed sincere gratitude after receiving plenty of congratulatory messages for a prolific career.
Amla retired from all international cricket last week. He will remain available for domestic selection and play in the 2019 edition of the Mzansi Super League, but his 15 years in Test, ODI and T20I cricket is over.
He has retired as South Africa’s second- and third-highest run-scorer in Test and ODI cricket, respectively.
‘Thanks to everyone for the wishes, messages and calls. Wow! It was truly an amazing journey with the Proteas – one that I was honoured to be a part of,’ Amla wrote on Instagram.
‘So many valuable lessons learnt and countless memories made during an incredible journey. It’s all the friends and teammates who have actually become family that I walk away richer for.’
Former teammate JP Duminy was among several well-wishers last week. Duminy’s international career ended after the 2019 World Cup. He recently won the Global T20 Canada with the Winnipeg Hawks.
‘Where do I begin to describe this legend of a human. An infectious personality, no matter the situation always finds time to see the brighter side. We’ve shared many amazing memories on the field of battle as well as the change room,’ Duminy said on social media.
‘Congrats on an amazing international career. Most definitely one of the greatest. Thanks for your service.’
