Ahmed Amla has been appointed head coach of the KZN Inland Tuskers for the remainder of the season.
This follows the sudden resignation of Grant Morgan.
Amla, a former KZN Dolphins batsman, has been involved in coaching since retiring as a player in 2013 and headed up the Tuskers Academy in Pietermaritzburg.
The 44-year-old, who played in over 300 professional matches, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
“Ahmed has been with KZN Inland Cricket for the past five years so he understands the culture and the ethos around the union,” KZN Inland Cricket CEO Jason Sathiaseelan said.
“With his playing experience as well as his coaching know-how we are confident that he will make an impact with the side during the remainder of the current season.
“We look forward to seeing how he guides the team as they begin their 4-Day campaign next week.”
Amla is eager to work with players he knows well.
“Having been here for five years and working with some of the players before I am excited by what I see,” Amla said.
“I’ve also got a good idea of what the pipeline here looks like and it’s exciting times here at the Pietermaritzburg Oval.
“Don’t get me wrong we have a lot of work to do and it’s going to be an incredibly tough 4-Day campaign, but I am hoping that my playing experience will be able to help the players during the rest of the season.
“I love the community here in Pietermaritzburg and I hope that we can make them proud.”
Amla’s first task is an away CSA 4-Day Domestic Series match against the defending champions the KZN Dolphins from 4-7 November.
