Former Proteas cricketer Hashim Amla will work with the Cape Town Blitz as a batting consultant during this year’s edition of the Mzansi Super League.
Amla retired from Test, ODI and T20I cricket after the World Cup in the United Kingdom earlier this year and withdrew from the player auction for the 2019 MSL.
‘Hashim has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game and we’re really looking forward to him bringing that to our management team,’ said Blitz head coach Ashwell Prince.
‘There are obviously a few very promising young batsmen in our squad and I think they will benefit immensely from having him around.
‘It’s also an opportunity for him to explore whether a position such as batting consultant could be something that he might want to take up in future. I have no doubt that he’d do a great job at it if he did.’
The veteran Amla will join the Blitz in late November, after captaining the Karnataka Tuskers in the T10 League in Abu Dhabi.
‘Hashim is not only a world-class batsman, but a humble human being as well and we are delighted that we were able to secure his services as he takes up his first consultancy role post in his international playing career,’ added Blitz chief executive officer Nabeal Dien.
The Blitz lost last year’s inaugural final to the Jozi Stars.
