Proteas batsman Hashim Amla has been cleared to bat after a concussion scare in the opening match against England at the Oval
The Proteas batsman left the field in the fourth over, after taking a blow to the grill off the bowling of Jofra Archer. The opener left the field with five to his name.
After a series of concussion tests, a CSA representative broke the news that he has been cleared to continue later in the game.
‘Amla has been assessed and is doing fine. Due to the sensitive nature of head injuries, he will undergo another re-assessment during the course of the innings which will give an indication of his further participation in the match.’
The team doctor later confirmed that he is clear to play.
‘Amla has been cleared to bat. The Team Dr conducted repeated Concussion Assessment Tests including Computerized Testing,’ a CSA representative confirmed.
‘Upon discussions with the tournament Chief Medical Officer, both agreed that it was fine for Hashim to Return to Play as per the ICC Concussion guidelines.’
The Proteas are currently chasing England’s total of 311.
