Former All Blacks captain Kieran Read and current wing Will Jordan starred with the bat as Team Rugby beat Team Cricket by six wickets in New Zealand’s annual Black Clash fixture.
Team Cricket was packed with ex-Black Caps, including Shane Bond, Kyle Mills, Stephen Fleming, Jacob Oram, Adam Parore and BJ Watling.
Team Cricket posted 203-5 in their 20 overs thanks to Watling’s unbeaten 58 off 36 balls, Grant Elliott’s 44 and a late flurry from Oram (23 off eight balls).
But Read (84 from 55 balls) and Jordan (63 from 37) made a century partnership for the first wicket that put Team Rugby well on track for victory.
Read hit Bond, the former fast bowler, for consecutive fours and a six, before eventually being dismissed when the scores were level.
All Blacks fullback Jordie Barrett then hit the winning runs from the first ball he faced.
Team Cricket: 203-5 in 20 overs (BJ Watling 58, Grant Elliott 44, Tom Walsh 34; Anton Devcich 2-25)
Team Rugby: 204-4 in 19.1 overs (Kieran Read 84, Will Jordan 63, Brendon McCullum 28; Elliott 2-32)
