Colin Ackermann’s fighting 81 underpinned the Warriors’ total of 231 on day one of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Dolphins at Kingsmead on Thursday.
His third half-century of the campaign took him to 580 for the season, 86 runs clear of Khaya Zondo (494) from the Dolphins in second place.
The Warriors set off solidly after being sent into bat, with Edward Moore smashing 37 off 41 balls in an opening stand of 47 with Gionne Koopman.
Koopman (22), Lesiba Ngoepe (4) and Yaseen Vallie (4) failed to provide Ackermann with any support, which left the Warriors precariously placed at 4-99. But Somila Seyibokwe helped stop the rot with a determined innings of 54 off 109 balls, putting on 102 runs for the fifth wicket.
When Seyibokwe fell, bowled by Andile Phehlukwayo, the left-arm spin of Senuran Muthusamy tied the Warriors in knots. He took four wickets for the addition of 12 runs, including Ackermann and Andrew Birch in three balls, as the Warriors fell from 212-5 to 224-9.
Calvin Savage wrapped things up by dismissing Basheeru-Deen Walters for six.
The Dolphins will resume day two on 39-0, with Divan van Wyk on 25 and Muthusamy on 10.
