Kyle Abbott’s 5-58 highlighted day two, but a weak reply from Hampshire saw them reduced to 92-7 in their County Championship clash against Essex.
The County Championship resumed on Friday, with four Division One clashes taking place over the weekend. We take a look at the standout performances from our SAFFAS abroad.
Hampshire vs Essex
Kyle Abbott was incredible on Saturday with the ball and will have to play a miracle role with the bat if he hopes to see his side recover on day three.
The Ex-Proteas speedster was vital to cleaning out Essex on Saturday, after a brilliant day one batting display from the home side.
A massive 243-run second-wicket stand from Alastair Cook (124) and Tom Westley (111) gave Essex control, but it was Abbott who had the last laugh, taking out Westley on the last ball of the day as they ended on 243-2 (78.2 overs).
Day two saw a total of 16 wickets fall, as Essex lost nine wickets for 117 runs, Abbott taking his third County Championship five-wicket haul of the season.
The 29-year-old, who took his tally to 25 wickets for the season, finished with 5-58 from 30 overs, including the wicket of Cook, as Essex posted 360. Cape Town-born Gareth Berg played a hand in the Essex collapse, picking up 2-89 (33 overs).
Hants’ reply saw their top five knocked over for 18 runs, which included the scalp of Rilee Rossouw for a duck.
Abbott will have to play a huge role with the bat on day three, as he sits on 27 not out, with his side on 92-7 in 29 overs.
Yorkshire vs Lancashire
Ex-Proteas all-rounder Ryan McLaren managed to pick up figures of 2-68, but it was not enough as Yorkshire dominated their opening two days, posting 421-7 in 139 overs.
