AB de Villiers is fighting for fitness ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the end of the month.
The Proteas Test and ODI skipper was expected to play in the Titans’ last group-stage T20 Challenge match before playing a part in the knockout stages, but after having a net session the day before his side’s record-breaking victory against the Lions on Wednesday, he reveals it was a bit too much, too soon.
‘I wanted to play on Wednesday night to get a bit of game time because I didn’t want to come straight into the team in the knockouts and disrupt them,’ De Villiers tells SAcricketmag.com. ‘Albie Morkel and Mark Boucher wanted me to play which boosted me to try and come back, but the surgeon said three months, not two months, so I’ve been a bit naughty.’
‘I’ve tried to push it hard to get back on the park. Hopefully I’ll make the Test matches but we’ll see what happens in a week’s time. We’ll assess it as we go on but things change all the time.’
