AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli signed off the season with a heartfelt message to the Royal Challengers Bangalore fans.
The Royal Challengers had a miserable start to their IPL campaign, losing their first six games.
They won their seventh game, courtesy of De Villiers and Kohli, who hit 63 off 53 balls and 59 off 38 balls respectively, but suffered a seventh defeat in the following match.
The introduction of Dale Steyn sparked a resurgence for the side with three straight wins, but Steyn pulled out of the tournament with a shoulder injury after the second win.
They needed to win their remaining games to give themselves a shot at a playoff spot, but they failed to beat the Delhi Capitals, and their 13th game was rained out, making it impossible to qualify.
They managed just nine points, four wins and eight defeats in 13 matches. They sign off the season with a consolation clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.
Kohli failed to improve on the last season that saw him score 530 runs. He managed just 448 runs in his 13 games at an average of 34.46 that included two half-centuries and a ton. He is 82 runs away from equalling last years runs total.
De Villiers has a chance to improve on last season, with one game left. He scored 441 runs at an average of 49 that included five half-centuries. Last season, he managed 480 runs.
The last game of the season is here and @imVkohli and @ABdeVilliers17 want you guys to know what’s on their minds. #PlayBold pic.twitter.com/GddTgzy2Zp
