Former Proteas captain AB de Villiers has expressed interest in a Middlesex return in the T20 Blast – and participation in The Hundred – next year.
De Villiers is currently with Middlesex for the 2019 T20 Blast and marked a superb debut with a characteristically quick half-century this month.
Next year’s cricket calendar in the United Kingdom will also feature The Hundred – the England and Wales Cricket Board’s new limited-overs tournament.
‘Maybe I’ll do both next year, who knows,’ De Villiers told Middlesex’s website.
‘If I am still fit, hitting them well and I’m competing with the best in the world, why not?
‘I haven’t seen the rules and regulations for The Hundred, but whatever is good for the game of cricket I am going to support.
‘Innovation is fantastic. If you never try you never know, so we’ll see what happens. If it’s OK, great; if it fails you move on, but I’m very excited to see how it works and maybe something will come of it.
‘Whatever promotes the game of cricket and brings more people to the game I’m a fan of.’
The prolific De Villiers retired from international cricket last year. He has since played in the Bangladesh Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Indian Premier League and others.
