Proteas captain AB de Villiers attended his first net session on Tuesday, after recovering from a successful elbow surgery.
The 32-year-old was forced to spend five months on the sidelines after a flare up of a previous elbow injury put him out of the Caribean Premier League in July. As a result, De Villiers was ruled out of the New Zealand Test series in August, and due to surgery in early October, the Australia ODI and Test series.
De Villiers will hope that he can gain some fitness and form by playing for the Titans in the T20 Challenge, with a return to the international stage on the cards when the Proteas’ Test series against Sri Lanka kicks off on 26 December.
It is expected that Faf du Plessis will step down as captain and hand over the duties to De Villiers.
De Villiers is expected to feature for the Titans in their final two group matches against the Lions and the Warriors.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the Proteas superstar updated us about his return to the nets, followed by a picture of him batting in his Titans practice kit flaunting his new bat.
Testing out the elbow today. First net session in a long time! Excited and nervous at the same time
