Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mahmood isn’t necessarily intimidated by England’s dominant batting order ahead of Monday’s World Cup fixture at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The match will be played on the same pitch that England collected the highest ODI total against Pakistan in 2016 – and bettered that 444 for three with 481 for six against Australia in 2018.

Batsman Alex Hales scored big centuries in both those fixtures, but isn’t part of the squad for the ongoing World Cup. The hosts, though, sport the services of opener Jason Roy, all-rounder Ben Stokes and Test captain Joe Root. All three scored important half-centuries in Thursday’s tournament opening win against South Africa at The Oval in London.

‘I am hearing that people are talking about 480 and 500 scores on this wicket. Let me tell you that England has too play 300 deliveries to score that much and we just need 10 good deliveries, 10 wicket-taking deliveries,’ said Mahmood.

‘And this bowling line-up has the ability to bowl England out for under 300.’

Pakistan have not won an ODI since late January 2019. They have since lost 11 ODIs to South Africa, Australia, England and the West Indies.

‘It’s true that we have lost 11 games and we are in search of one win. We have set our plans for that and just need proper execution to achieve that. We are not among the people who give up easily. We have always bounced back after being knocked down and we will do that again,’ added Mahmood.
