Kings XI Punjab ended Rajasthan Royals’ unbeaten run in the IPL, as Shaun Marsh provided the damage in a super over after the sides were tied from their allotted overs.

David Miller came back into the side for Punjab, and repaid the faith in some style as he struck 54 off 30 balls to help his side match the Royals earlier total, but it was a game to forget for Chris Morris, who was handed the bowling duties in the super over for the Royals, and despite seeing off Miller in the first ball, allowed Marsh to unleash.

Shane Watson’s Royals were eyeing six wins out of six, and a 95-run stand from the skipper and Ajinkya Rahane at the top of the order put them in the ascendency. Aussie pair Steve Smith and James Faulkner failed to trouble the scorers, but cameos from Deepak Hooda and Karun Nair saw them post 191-6.

In response, Virender Sehwag and Murali Vijay both fell to run outs and Glenn Maxwell was sent back for one as the Royals appeared to be coasting to another victory, but Marsh and Miller had other ideas, smashing eight sixes between them as they put on 58 in five overs. Axar Patel and Mitchell Johnson were then left to finish off the job for Punjab, and they almost did needing 14 off the final over, but they too scored 191-6, setting up the super over.

Miller fell first ball, but Marsh – merely a net batsman for Punjab this season going into the match – got them to 15. The pressure told on the Royals. Watson departed and Faulkner was run out, for the Kings XI to snatch victory away from their Australian laden opponents.
