Proteas all-rounder Chris Morris will play for Hampshire in the the T20 Blast later this year.
Morris is currently with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, but was not named in the XI for Wednesday’s eliminator fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
‘I’m really looking forward to joining Hampshire for the Vitality Blast,’ said Morris. ‘It’s an exciting tournament and it’s an exciting summer coming up – I can’t wait to get there and play at the Ageas Bowl and express what I can do.’
Hampshire director of cricket Giles White added: ‘We were delighted when Chris agreed early on to join us for the season. He’s a dynamic batsman in the middle order, and a handful with the ball both up front and at the death, so he’s a great fit for us and hopefully he’ll make a big difference this summer.’
Former Proteas cricketers Rilee Rossouw and Kyle Abbott play for Hampshire, who enjoyed the services of Test opener Aiden Markram earlier this year.
Earlier this week, Morris was named as a replacement for the injured Anrich Nortje in South Africa’s squad for the 2019 World Cup in the United Kingdom. Nortje has been sidelined with a hand injury.
