Opening batsman Quinton de Kock is eager to find some consolation and comfort in a successful Indian Premier League campaign, shortly after South Africa’s disappointing World Cup exit.

De Kock endured a poor stretch of form in Australia and New Zealand last month, scoring a mere 145 runs in eight innings prior to the Proteas’ semi-final exit to the Black Caps, who eventually lost to Australia in the final.

He will play for the Delhi Daredevils, who are coached by fellow South African Gary Kirsten, captained by JP Duminy and have recruited leg-spinner Imran Tahir and all-rounder Albie Morkel, in this month’s IPL.

‘It took me a day or two to get over the disappointment,’ said De Kock.

‘A World Cup is a World Cup, but one needs to move on from that thing. It’s in the past now and I am focusing on the next challenge.’

Delhi’s opening fixture will be against the Chennai Super Kings, who boast the services of Proteas seamer Kyle Abbott and batsman Faf du Plessis, in Chepauk on 9 April.
