The Cricket World Cup produced one winner and so did our brilliant PlayFantasy game. Kal-El’s-Klobbers won R10 000 cash by finishing top of the rankings with 236.5 points.

In second place was #ProteaFIRE on 235, followed by Bulle Bo XV on 232.5.

The top 10 was rounded out by Chokers XI (231pts), Jammies (229), Kings and Rod’s Superstars (both 228.5), willehonde (228), Back in Black (226.5) and Bulldozers (223).

Here we let him tell us his keys to success:

‘In selecting my team I went back and took a look at which players seemed to be in form towards the end of 2014, beginning of 2015. This of course had to be weighed up with the budget that was allocated to us for the tournament and the prices of the various players, so the team could not simply be loaded with stars as you would not have enough money to purchase a full squad. My team to start with (from what I can remember) was:

Allrounder: Glenn Maxwell

Openers: Hashim Amla and Chris Gayle

Middle-order: AB de Villiers, David Miller and Rilee Rossouw

Wicketkeeper: Brad Haddin

Spinner: Imran Tahir

Seamers: Mitchell Starc, Trent Boult and Tim Southee

‘I found that Imran Tahir was great value for money at only R20 000 and so were Rilee Rossouw (R20 000) and David Miller (R50 000) who still scored a lot of points but because they were so cheap allowed me to have players like AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle in my side. My teams for the rest of the competition were chosen by looking at who was in form during the games preceding each transfer period and so for example bringing in Shikhar Dhawan for Chris Gayle as one of my substitutions.

‘My team that I chose for the final was very difficult to chose as it was so close for first place in the fantasy league and I did not want to make the wrong choices so I took a gamble by selecting some guys that were not playing and were cheap buys, leaving me enough of a budget to afford the big stars.

‘My team for the final was:

‘What I loved about fantasy league is the extra excitement it brought to watching the games, you constantly on the edge of your seat hoping that your selections will perform on the field. Where before I wouldn’t necessarily have watched a specific game it now made these games interesting as well as I would be watching to see if my selections were performing.’
